February 13, 2026 - On Monday, February 9th, the Delta Gamma members of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International presented a patriotic program at Tenaha High School. These women educators from Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby Counties hosted approximately 160 students from Excelsior, Timpson, Shelbyville, Gary, and Tenaha schools. The program was inspired by the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, featuring Dr. Shellie O'Neal in a one-woman show titled "God Bless America: A World War II Radio Hour."

Dr. O'Neal served as the Chair of Theatre at Navarro College for 24 years. After conducting extensive research, she created a fictional portrayal of radio host Sally Brennan. During the 54-minute performance, she sang patriotic anthems while providing historical context for each song. The presentation included humorous commercials from the era, and she interspersed the perspectives of the Founding Fathers with events from World War II.
The Delta Gamma members organized this program to enhance patriotic sentiment and inspire students, teachers, and other guests in attendance.

A special thank you goes to Tenaha's Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Terry Bowlin, and the THS administration for providing a welcoming venue. Additionally, Chip Roberson from Tenaha First Baptist Church assisted with the sound system for the event.
The audience left with a powerful message about how God has blessed America, while the program paid tribute to the many sacrifices made by our ancestors.

Reorientation to Delta Kappa Gamma

Books for San Augustine Elementary
The San Augustine members of Delta Gamma gifted books to all second graders at the elementary school.  Teachers will work with the students and send the books home during Spring Break so that the students may read the books to their families.  The books will belong to the students and will be theirs to begin building a home library.  This year, the teachers found bargains, and the students will get two books before spring break in March and two books later in the year.
Books for Tenaha Students
Teachers recently visited Fannie Watson's home to accept 54 books that were gifts from Delta Gamma member Becky Wiggins. These books will provide kindergarten through third-grade teachers with multiple teaching methods and ideas for instructing students in math, science, language arts, writing and art. Mrs. Wiggins treasured these gently-used books she collected in her many years of teaching in Center and Nacogdoches and wished to pass them on to someone who might use them.
